This is mostly just a test-post, but I do find it’s nice to leave these suckers up even once you get things up and running.
This is, as the name may imply, a new blog. Better than the old blog.
Previously, I’ve blogged at ohbalto.com (long since stolen by some domain-pirates) and beautifulhandcraftedanimals.com (more on that to come). I’m working to centralize everything here, though, and see if I can’t be a drop more active in what’s going on.
Ostensibly, I’ve been blogging as I work on various book-writing projects. “Projects” is a terrible way to put it, but I’m going with it (neener).
Last year I got a first draft of Beautiful Handcrafted Animals done during National Novel Writing Month. I don’t think I’ll be participating in NaNoWriMo this year (though I might) due to stresses both internal and external. I will be writing, though! Maybe I’ll extend things out and “unofficially” participate as a way to egg myself on.
We shall see.
At present, the book I’m working on is titled, Lions Together are Called a Pride. Following in the vein of Animals, it’s yet another story that’s tough to boil down into a single-sentence description. Not because the stories are needlessly complex (they’re both rather simple, come to that), but because the one-line description would, by necessity, give away major plot-points.
In simplest terms, though, Animals is about a man who discovers his world is not quite what he thought it was and Lions Together is about a woman who goes through a traumatic experience and experiences some changes as a result. Putting it that blandly is a vast oversimplification, of course.
In the past, I’ve tended to work the blog like so: I’d write for the evening and then post a word-count with some little notes about how things were going. It was something of a decompression chamber, if you will, for post-writing musing.
It was interesting during NaNoWriMo, but not-so-much outside of that.
How I intend to use THIS blog is a little more proactive. First off, I don’t want to post about Lions Together until I have (a) a couple chapters under my belt, and/or (b) something interesting to say about it. I know how the first few chapters should shape up, so there’s no reason to bore you. Once we’ve got about 5,000 or 10,000 words down, we can start talking about the process.
Once I’m happy with a chapter or two, I’ll toss up a download link, in case anyone’s actually interested in that.
Also, I’ll post about movies, books and games I’m watching, reading, playing, or looking forward to.
I’ll post pictures, if I come across interesting things to take pictures of.
Over there on the side, it says, “Blather” and that’s what you’re going to get sometimes. Blather. I’ll carry on about whatever.
In the past we’ve had other contributors to the blog. That might start happening, as well, if anyone’s interested.
I’m looking at this as a hub for several things that I have going on at once. You’ll see some interesting stuff, some unrelated things, and probably a good deal of randomness. This is by design. When I try to stay, “on topic”, I tend to not post (as it’s herky and jerky what might actually constitute being, “on topic”).
And so, here we are.
